Abstract
A method and system for a noise cancellation comprises an amplifier in communication with three or more speakers disposed in an area. A system controller produces a driver signal for each of the speakers in response to a signal from at least one microphone detecting sound in the area and communicates the driver signals to the amplifier. The amplifier drives each speaker with the driver signal produced for that speaker. In response to the driver signals, the speakers emit sound having a magnitude and phase that combine to attenuate a noise field in the area.
Claims20
An audio system comprising:
- three or more loudspeakers configured to be disposed in a vehicle and to generate acoustic sound pressure in a zone of the vehicle;
- at least one microphone configured to be disposed in the vehicle and to detect sound in the zone and to provide a microphone signal based on the sound;
- a controller configured to receive the microphone signal and to provide a driver signal to each of the three or more loudspeakers, the three or more driver signals configured to drive the three or more loudspeakers in an arrayed configuration wherein at least one of the three or more driver signals is different from another one of the three or more driver signals, the three or more driver signals further configured to cause the acoustic sound pressure generated by the three or more loudspeakers in the zone to attenuate a noise field corresponding to the sound detected by the at least one microphone.
A vehicle comprising:
- three or more loudspeakers disposed in the vehicle and configured to generate acoustic sound pressure in a zone of the vehicle;
- at least one microphone disposed in the vehicle and positioned to detect sound in the zone and to provide a microphone signal based on the sound;
A method of attenuating noise in a listening zone, the method comprising:
- receiving a microphone signal representative of sound in the listening zone;
- generating a driver signal based upon the microphone signal;
- providing the driver signal to each of three or more loudspeakers such that the three or more loudspeakers operate in an arrayed configuration wherein at least one of the three or more loudspeakers is driven by a modified version of the driver signal different from the others of the three or more loudspeakers;
- and
- generating, by the three or more loudspeakers, acoustic sound pressure in the listening zone, the driver signal configured to cause the acoustic sound pressure in the listening zone to attenuate the noise in the listening zone.
