Abstract
Data center systems are described. A router can receive a data packet having a header indicating the destination for that data packet. That router can then route the data packet to another, second router. The routers can consider different portions of the header when making their routing decisions. For example, the different portions can be different sizes to allow for the first router to perform less complex routing decisions while the second router can perform more complex routing decisions.
Claims20
A data center system comprising:
- a first router configured to receive a data packet having a header indicating a destination for the data packet;
- and
- a second router, wherein the first router is configured to route the data packet to the second router based on a first portion of the header, and the second router is configured to further route the data packet within the data center system based on a second portion of the header, the first portion of the header and the second portion of the header being different sizes.
An apparatus comprising:
- one or more ingress ports;
- one or more egress ports;
- a routing circuit coupled to the one or more ingress ports and the one or more egress ports, and configured to receive data packets from the one or more ingress ports and route the data packets to the one or more egress ports based on a header portion of the data packets, wherein the routing module uses less than the entire contents of a destination information in the header portion to route the data packets to the one or more egress ports.
A method for use in a datacenter comprising:
- determining an ingress and egress port configuration for a routing circuit, the ingress and egress port configuration including an ingress port and an egress port;
- receiving a data packet at the ingress port;
- determining a presorting rule configuration representing destinations for the data packet based on characteristics of the data packet;
- inspecting the data packets based on the presorting rule configuration to determine the characteristics of the data packet;
- and
- sending the data packet to the egress port based on the characteristics of the data packets.
