Abstract
A computer-implemented method for approximating an image may include (i) dividing an original image into a plurality of approximation sectors, (ii) calculating a representative color for each approximation sector, (iii) selecting, based on the representative color of each approximation sector, at least one color gradient and a direction for each color gradient, such that the color gradients form a visual approximation of the original image, and (iv) providing, to an endpoint computing device and based on the selected color gradients, instructions that enable the endpoint computing device to render, prior to displaying the original image, the visual approximation of the original image. Various other methods, systems, and computer-readable media are also disclosed.

A computer-implemented method comprising:
- dividing an original image into a plurality of approximation sectors;
- calculating a representative color for each approximation sector in the plurality of approximation sectors;
- selecting, based on the representative color of each approximation sector in the plurality of approximation sectors, at least one color gradient and a direction of the at least one color gradient, wherein the at least one color gradient forms a visual approximation of the original image;
- and
- providing, to an endpoint computing device and based on the at least one color gradient and the direction of the at least one color gradient, instructions that enable the endpoint computing device to render, prior to displaying the original image, the visual approximation of the original image.
A system comprising:
- a dividing module, stored in a memory of the system, that divides an original image into a plurality of approximation sectors;
- a calculating module, stored in the memory, that calculates a representative color for each approximation sector in the plurality of approximation sectors;
- a selecting module, stored in the memory, that selects, based on the representative color of each approximation sector in the plurality of approximation sectors, at least one color gradient and a direction of the at least one color gradient, wherein the at least one color gradient forms a visual approximation of the original image;
- a providing module, stored in the memory, that provides, to an endpoint computing device and based on the at least one color gradient and the direction of the at least one color gradient, instructions that enable the endpoint computing device to render, prior to displaying the original image, the visual approximation of the original image;
- and
- at least one physical processor configured to execute the dividing module, the calculating module, the selecting module, and the providing module.
A computer-readable medium comprising one or more computer-readable instructions that, when executed by at least one processor of a computing device, cause the computing device to:
- divide an original image into a plurality of approximation sectors;
- calculate a representative color for each approximation sector in the plurality of approximation sectors;
- select, based on the representative color of each approximation sector in the plurality of approximation sectors, at least one color gradient and a direction of the at least one color gradient, wherein the at least one color gradient forms a visual approximation of the original image;
- and
- provide, to an endpoint computing device and based on the at least one color gradient and the direction of the at least one color gradient, instructions that enable the endpoint computing device to render, prior to displaying the original image, the visual approximation of the original image.
