Command-Based Timer for Wireless Transactions

A near-field communication enabled (NFC-enabled) device, comprising:

• an NFC interface configured to receive a first command, wherein the first command is associated with an NFC transaction;
• an applet configured to:
• initiate a first command-based timer in response to receiving the first command;
• determine whether a second command is received before the first command-based timer expires;
• and
• issue an activity timeout signal when the first command-based timer has expired before the second command is received;
• and
• an application processor configured to provide an indication that the NFC transaction has been completed when the activity timeout signal has been issued.

A non-transitory computer-readable medium having instructions stored thereon that, when executed by at least one computing device, causes the at least one computing device to perform operations comprising:

• executing an applet;
• detecting a receipt of a first command associated with the applet;
• initiating a first command-based timer based at least in part on the receipt of the first command;
• detecting a receipt of a second command, wherein the receipt of the second command occurs before the first command-based timer expires;
• canceling the first command-based timer based at least in part on the receipt of the second command;
• initiating a second command-based timer based at least in part on the receipt of the second command;
• issuing an activity timeout signal based at least in part on an expiration of the second command-based timer;
• and
• providing a transaction completion indication in response to the activity timeout signal.
