Image processing apparatus, image processing system, image processing method, and storage medium

An image processing system configured to generate a virtual viewpoint image using an image based on image capturing performed by a plurality of image capturing apparatuses configured to capture an image of an image capturing target region from a plurality of directions, the image processing system comprising:

• a viewpoint acquisition unit configured to acquire viewpoint information indicating a virtual viewpoint;
• an acquisition unit configured to acquire information about an image to be displayed by a display surface located in the image capturing target region;
• an extraction unit configured to extract, based on the information acquired by the acquisition unit, an object region corresponding to a predetermined object from the image based on the image capturing performed by an image capturing apparatus included in the plurality of image capturing apparatuses, wherein the object region does not include a pixel corresponding to the display surface;
• and
• an image generation unit configured to generate the virtual viewpoint image including the predetermined object based on the plurality of images of the object region extracted by the extraction unit from the plurality of images based on the image capturing performed by the plurality of image capturing apparatuses and the viewpoint information acquired by the viewpoint acquisition unit.

An image processing method that is executed by a system configured to extract an object region corresponding to a predetermined object from an extraction target image based on image capturing performed by an image capturing apparatus, the image processing method comprising:

• acquiring information about an image to be displayed on a display surface located in an image capturing range of the image capturing apparatus;
• identifying, as a region from which extraction of the object region is not to be performed, a region corresponding to the display surface in the extraction target image, based on the acquired information;
• and
• extracting the object region formed by part of a plurality of pixels not included in the identified region among a pixel included in the extraction target image.

A storage medium configured to store a program for causing a compute to execute an image processing method comprising:

• acquiring information about an image to be displayed on a display surface located in an image capturing range of an image capturing apparatus;
• identifying, as a region from which extraction of an object region corresponding to a predetermined object is not to be performed, a region corresponding to the display surface in an extraction target image, based on the acquired information;
• and
• extracting the object region formed by part of a plurality of pixels not included in the identified region among a pixel included in the extraction target image.
