Abstract
Systems and methods for recovering corrupted data or missing data from a cache are provided. When a data corruption is discovered in a storage system, the cache may be searched to determine if a valid copy of the corrupted data can be recovered from the cache.

In a system that includes a storage device and a flash memory configured as a cache for the storage device, a method for recovering data on the storage device that has become corrupted without accessing a backup of the data stored on the storage device, the method comprising:
- performing a data protection operation on data stored the system;
- determining that a portion of the data stored in the system cannot be accessed;
- searching the cache for a valid copy of the portion of the data, wherein the cache stores data read from the storage device;
- and
- recovering a valid copy of the portion of the data from the cache after determining that the valid copy is present in the cache.
