Systems and methods of associating media content with contexts

A method of saving media content to a context for later playback on a media playback device comprising:

• receiving input or one or more parameters defining a first context, wherein the first context is a situation defined by one or more of a time, a geographic location, an event, a person, and an activity;
• receiving a selection of a first media content item to save for later playback;
• receiving a selection of the first context in which the media content will be played;
• recording, in a context data store, identifying information for the first media content item in a list of media content associated with the first context;
• later detecting detecting external input matching the parameters for the first context;
• referencing the context data store to identify the first context and determine the list of media content associated with the first context;
• and
• automatically playing the media content from the list of media content associated with the first context after determining that the media playback device is in the first context.

A system for saving media content to a context comprising:

• a mobile media playback device comprising a processing device and a memory device, the memory device storing a context application configured to;
• receive inputs to link media content identifiers to a context for playback, the context comprising a situation defined by one or more parameters;
• record links made between contexts and the media content identifiers;
• and
• access the media content items identified by the media content identifiers after the context application has determined that the mobile media playback device is in the context for playback;
• and
• a media server comprising a processing device and a memory device, the memory device of the server storing an application configured to access the media content from a media content database and communicate the related media content to a mobile device.

One or more computer-readable media having computer-executable instructions embodied thereon that, when executed by one or more computing devices, cause the computing devices to:

• receive a selection of a first media content item;
• present to a user a plurality of contexts for playback, the plurality of contexts for playback including a first context for playback, the contexts being defined by one or more of a time, a geographic location, an event, a person, and an activity;
• receive a selection of the first context for playback;
• associate the first media content item with the first context for playback;
• detect an occurrence of the first context for playback;
• and
• automatically play the first media content item after detecting the occurrence of the first context for playback.
