Abstract
Technology for adjusting touch resolution for a capacitive touch sensor. A touch resolution of a capacitive touch sensor is set to a first resolution. A footprint of an object in contact with a surface of the capacitive touch sensor is determined. The capacitive touch sensor is adjusted to a second resolution to detect objects based on the footprint of the object, wherein the second resolution is different than the first resolution.
Claims29
A capacitive touch sensor system, comprising:
- a plurality of drive lines configured to carry an electrical current;
- a plurality of sense lines configured to carry an electrical current and intersect with the plurality of drive lines;
- a sensing circuit configured to monitor the capacitance of the sense lines;
- and
- a controller configured to:
- enable the plurality of drive lines to a first resolution;
- determine a footprint of an object in contact with a surface of the capacitive touch sensor system based on a change in capacitance detected by the sensing circuit;
- and
- adjust the first resolution to a second resolution to detect objects based on the footprint of the object by disabling a portion of the plurality of drive lines, wherein the second resolution is different than the first resolution.
