Abstract
An apparatus, system, and method are disclosed for an elastomer lined self-locking tie which includes an elongated strap, at least one cavity disposed in the elongated strap, an elastomer segment, and a locking head. The elongated strap includes a head end positioned opposite a tapered end. The tapered end includes a first surface positioned opposite a second surface. The cavity is positioned in either the first surface or the second surface. The elastomer segment is positioned within the cavity and extends beyond either the first surface or the second surface. The locking head extends from the head end of the elongated strap and includes an orifice shaped to receive the tapered end of the elongated strap and the elastomer segment.
Claims20
A self-locking tie, comprising:
- an elongated strap including a first surface, a second surface, a periphery, a head end, and a tapered end, the second surface opposite from the first surface, the tapered end opposite from the head end;
- cavities recessed in the first surface of the elongated strap, a first cavity positioned along at least a portion of a length of the elongated strap at a location adjacent to a first side of the periphery of the elongated strap, a second cavity positioned along at least a portion of a length of the elongated strap at a location adjacent to a second side of the periphery of the elongated strap;
- an elastomer segment including a pair of cavity engaging portions and a pair of extending portions, a first cavity engaging portion of the pair of cavity engaging portions being located within the first cavity, a second cavity engaging portion of the pair of cavity engaging portions being located within the second cavity, a first extending portion of the pair of extending portions extending from the first cavity engaging portion and extending beyond the first surface at the location adjacent to the first side of the periphery of the elongated strap, a second extending portion of the pair of extending portions extending from the first cavity engaging portion and extending beyond the first surface at the location adjacent to the second side of the periphery of the elongated strap;
- a locking head at the head end of the elongated strap, the locking head comprising an orifice shaped to receive the tapered end of the elongated strap and the elastomer segment.
An apparatus capable of affixing a plurality of items, the apparatus comprising:
- an elongated strap including a first surface, a second surface, a periphery, a head end, and a tapered end, the first surface and the second surface being located opposite from one another, the head end and the tapered end being located opposite from one another;
- a first cavity recessed in the first surface, located adjacent to a first side of the periphery of the elongated strap;
- a second cavity recessed in the first surface, located adjacent to a second side of the periphery of the elongated strap, the second first side and the second side comprising opposite sides of the periphery of the elongated strap;
- an elastomer segment, including:
- a first cavity engaging portion and a first extending portion, the first cavity engaging portion substantially filling the first cavity, the first extending portion extending from the first cavity engaging portion beyond the first surface of the elongated strap;
- and
- a second cavity engaging portion and a second extending portion, the second cavity engaging portion substantially filling the second cavity, the second extending portion extending from the second cavity engaging portion beyond the first surface of the elongated strap;
- a locking head at the head end of the elongated strap, the locking head comprising an orifice shaped to receive a cross section of the elongated strap and the elastomer segment.
The apparatus of claim 11, further comprising:
- a series of teeth protruding from the first surface of the elongated strap and extending across a portion of a width of the first surface of the elongated strap between the first extending portion of the elastomer segment and the second extending portion of the elastomer segment.
An elastomer lined self-locking tie, comprising:
- an elongated strap including a head end and a tapered end at opposite ends of the elongated strap, a first surface and a second surface opposite from the first surface, and a periphery including a first side and a second side opposite from the first side;
- a series of teeth protruding from the first surface of the elongated strap and extending across a portion of a width of the first surface of the elongated strap, with a first side of the series of teeth being located adjacent to the first side of the periphery and a second side of the series of teeth being located adjacent to the second side of the periphery;
- at least one first cavity recessed in the first surface of the elongated strap at a location between the first side of the series of teeth and the first side of the periphery;
- at least one second cavity recessed in the first surface of the elongated strap at a location between the second side of the series of teeth and the second side of the periphery;
- an elastomer segment, comprising:
- at least one first cavity engaging portion substantially filling the at least one first cavity;
- at least one first extending portion extending from the at least one first cavity engaging portion, beyond the first surface of the elongated strap;
- at least one second cavity engaging portion substantially filling the at least one second cavity;
- and
- at least one second extending portion extending from the at least one second cavity engaging portion, beyond the first surface of the elongated strap;
- and
- a locking head at the head end of the elongated strap, the locking head comprising an orifice shaped to receive a cross section of the elongated strap and the elastomer segment.
