Abstract
Fabrics made for apparel, tents, sleeping bags and the like, in various composites, constructed such that a combination of substrate layers and insulation layers is configured to provide improved thermal insulation. The fabric composites are constructed to form a radiant barrier against heat loss via radiation and via conduction from a body.

A reflective composite, comprising;
- a first substrate;
- a first metal layer disposed directly on a surface of the first substrate;
- a second substrate;
- a first insulation layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate, in which the first metal layer on the first substrate is in direct contact with the insulation layer;
- a third substrate;
- and
- wherein the first insulation layer and the first substrate with the first metal layer are disposed between the second substrate and the third substrate.

A reflective composite, comprising;
- a first substrate, a second substrate, and a third substrate;
- a first metal layer disposed directly on a surface of the first substrate;
- a first insulation layer disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate, in which the first metal layer on the first substrate is in direct contact with the first insulation layer;
- and a second insulation later disposed between the first substrate and the third substrate;
- the first insulation layer, the second insulation layer and the first substrate with the first metal layer disposed thereon are positioned between the second substrate and the third substrate;
- a protective coating is applied to the third substrate, the protective coating being a hydrophobic coating on the third substrate, the protective coating having a thickness of between approximately 0.2 μm to 2.0 μm;
- and
- wherein the first insulation layer is selected from the group of;
- natural down, a natural feather, natural fibre, synthetic feather, synthetic down, and synthetic fibre insulation, and when the first insulation layer is formed with at least one of a synthetic feather, synthetic down, and synthetic fibre insulation comprises fibres in the range of 5 to 20 microns.
