Abstract
Provided is a method for making a modified alloy. The method includes: providing at least one base alloy; providing at least one boride compound represented by the formula, MxBy; forming a melt pool comprising the base alloy and the at least one boride compound, and solidifying at least a portion of the melt pool. In the formula, M is a non-boron element, B is boron, x=1 or 2, and y=1 or 2.
Claims20
A method for forming a modified alloy, comprising:
- providing at least one base alloy;
- providing at least one boride compound, the at least one boride represented by Formula I:
- MxBy (I),
- wherein M is a non-boron element,
- wherein B is boron,
- wherein x=1 or 2, and
- wherein y=1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6;
- and
- forming a melt pool comprising the base alloy and the at least one boride compound;
- and
- solidifying at least a portion the melt pool.
8 more elements
A powder for use in additive manufacturing, comprising:
- base alloy particles;
- and
- up to about 20% by weight of boride compound particles, wherein the boride compound is represented by Formula I:
- MxBy (I),
- wherein M is a non-boron element,
- wherein B is boron,
- wherein x=1 or 2, and
- wherein y=1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6.
