Systems, Methods and Apparatuses for Ensuring Proximity of WiFi Communication Devices

A device-implemented method comprising:

• broadcasting, by a terminal, a broadcast packet to one or more devices within a range of the terminal, the broadcast packet containing time slot information;
• receiving, by the terminal, at one or more time slots one or more replies from the one or more devices, wherein a reply is received from a device of the one or more devices at a time slot of the one or more time slots;
• calculating, by the terminal, a distance from the terminal for each of the one or more devices from which the one or more replies were received;
• selecting, by the terminal, from the one or more devices a candidate device for a proximity verification process based upon each distance calculated by the terminal;
• and
• executing, by the terminal, the proximity verification process with the candidate device.

A terminal device comprising:

• a wireless interface configured to wirelessly communicate with one or more of devices within a range;
• and
• a processor configured to:
• broadcast a broadcast packet to the one or more devices within the range of the terminal, the broadcast packet containing time slot information;
• receive at one or more time slots one or more replies from the one or more devices, wherein a reply is received from a device of the one or more devices at a time slot of the one or more time slots;
• calculate a distance from the terminal for each of the one or more devices from which the one or more replies were received;
• select from the one or more devices a candidate device for a proximity verification process based upon each distance calculated by the terminal;
• and
• execute the proximity verification process with the candidate device.
