Abstract
The invention relates to a motion compensation performed under an inter-frame prediction. A fractional sample interpolation is applied on retrieved samples to generate fractional samples. The fractional sample interpolation comprises a plurality of filtering operations, and all of filtered results from the filtering operations are truncated down to a predetermined bit depth independent of the bit depth of the samples stored in the reference picture memory.
Claims2
A video decoding method for motion compensation performed under an inter-frame prediction, the method comprising computer executable steps executed by a processor of a video decoder to implement:
- retrieving reference samples from a reference picture memory;
- applying a first fractional sample interpolation on the retrieved samples in a first direction to generate a first set of fractional samples;
- and
- applying a second fractional sample interpolation on the first set of fractional samples in a second direction to generate a second set of fractional samples,
- wherein the reference samples are represented with a first bit depth and the first set of fractional samples are represented with a second bit depth which is constant regardless of the first bit depth of the reference samples,
- wherein a bidirectional prediction sample is generated by combining two second sets of fractional samples by a sample interpolation, the two second sets being different from each other,
- wherein a value of the bidirectional prediction sample is clipped so as to be represented with the first bit depth of the reference sample.
