A method of simulating a dental operation on a dental simulation machine having a hand piece to simulate a dentist's tool and a support surface for engagement by a finger of a user to support a hand of a user, the method including holding the hand piece between a thumb and a first finger of a user and resting a tip of a second finger on the support surface.
