System and Method for Segmenting Out Multiple Body Parts

A segmentation system, comprising:

• an image-sensor circuit configured to generate a frame of a monitoring area that includes data associated with an object in the monitoring area;
• and
• a processor communicatively coupled to the image-sensor circuit and configured to:
• receive the frame from the image-sensor circuit;
• compare spectral angles corresponding to a full-body segmentation of the frame with multiple reference spectral angles corresponding to different parts of the object;
• and
• based on the comparison of the spectral angles corresponding to the full-body segmentation of the frame with the reference spectral angles, segment out multiple parts from the full-body segmentation, wherein the multiple parts that are segmented out and the full-body segmentation are associated with the object.

A method for decomposing a full-body segmentation into multiple body-part segmentations, comprising:

• realizing a full-body segmentation associated with a human target;
• comparing spectral angles corresponding to the full-body segmentation with multiple reference spectral angles corresponding to different portions of the human target;
• based on comparing the spectral angles corresponding to the full-body segmentation with the multiple reference spectral angles, segmenting out multiple body parts from the full-body segmentation;
• and
• estimating a virtual centroid based on the body parts segmented out from the full-body segmentation.
