Method and system for processing engineering objects in an industrial automation environment

An apparatus for processing engineering objects in an industrial automation environment, the apparatus comprising:

• a processor;
• and
• a memory coupled to the processor, wherein the memory comprises an object transformation module stored in a form of machine-readable instructions executable by the processor, wherein the object transformation module is configured to:
• obtain a first data file from a user device, wherein the first data file comprises one or more engineering objects in a first data format;
• identify a device type associated with the one or more engineering objects in the first data file;
• determine one or more transformations associated with the identified device type based on a metadata file stored in a database;
• transform the identified device type to a second data format based on the determined one or more transformations;
• and
• generate a second data file comprising the transformed device type in the second data format on a graphical user interface.

A non-transitory computer implemented storage medium, having machine-readable instructions stored therein, that when executed by at least one processor, cause the processor to:

• obtain a first data file from a user device, wherein the first data file comprises one or more engineering objects in a first data format;
• identify a device type associated with the one or more engineering objects in the first data file;
• determine one or more transformations associated with the identified device type based on a metadata file stored in a database;
• transform the identified device type to a second data format based on the determined one or more transformations;
• and
• generate a second data file comprising the transformed device type in the second data format on a graphical user interface.
