Abstract
Release and re-acquisition of each of a first shared lock on an outer database ownership table and a second shared lock on an inner database ownership table is alternated by a messaging engine processor that executes a messaging engine to permit database maintenance operations to be performed while maintaining the ownership of the database. At least one period of inactivity of both the outer database ownership table and the inner database ownership table is provided that allows at least one database tool to execute to perform at least one database maintenance task during the execution of the messaging engine.
Claims15
A method, comprising:
- by a messaging engine processor that executes a messaging engine:
- alternating, while maintaining ownership of a database, release and re-acquisition of each of a first shared lock on an outer database ownership table and a second shared lock on an inner database ownership table to permit database maintenance operations to be performed;
- and
- providing at least one period of inactivity of both the outer database ownership table and the inner database ownership table that allows at least one database tool to execute to perform at least one database maintenance task during the execution of the messaging engine.
A system, comprising:
- a memory device comprising an outer database ownership table and an inner database ownership table;
- and
- a messaging engine processor that executes a messaging engine, where the messaging engine processor is programmed to:
- alternate, while maintaining ownership of a database, release and re-acquisition of each of a first shared lock on the outer database ownership table and a second shared lock on the inner database ownership table to permit database maintenance operations to be performed;
- and
- provide at least one period of inactivity of both the outer database ownership table and the inner database ownership table that allows at least one database tool to execute to perform at least one database maintenance task during the execution of the messaging engine.
A computer program product comprising a computer readable storage medium including computer readable program code, where the computer readable storage medium is not a transitory signal per se and where the computer readable program code when executed on a computer implemented as a messaging engine causes the computer to:
- alternate, while maintaining ownership of a database, release and re-acquisition of each of a first shared lock on an outer database ownership table and a second shared lock on an inner database ownership table to permit database maintenance operations to be performed;
- and
- provide at least one period of inactivity of both the outer database ownership table and the inner database ownership table that allows at least one database tool to execute to perform at least one database maintenance task during the execution of the messaging engine.
