Generating or updating cross-community streams

A method for generating or updating cross-community streams, the method comprising:

• maintaining, using a database system, a plurality of communities on behalf of a plurality of member organizations by a social networking system associated with the database system, members of each community having access to a corresponding set of records stored in the database system;
• displaying, in a user interface on a display of a device of a first user of the social networking system, one or more selections operable to assign one or more records to one or more cross-community streams, each of the one or more cross-community streams being a feed viewable by members of a plurality of communities, assignment of a record to a cross-community stream causing the cross-community stream to include feed content relating to the record;
• processing a first request, from the first user via the user interface, to assign a first set of one or more records to a first cross-community stream, the first cross-community stream being viewable by members of at least:
• a first one of the plurality of communities, and
• a second one of the plurality of communities;
• and
• generating or updating, responsive to processing the first request, the first cross-community stream.

A computer program product for generating or updating cross-community streams, the computer program product comprising computer-readable program code capable of being executed by one or more processors when retrieved from a non-transitory computer-readable medium, the program code comprising instructions configurable to cause:

• maintaining, using a database system, a plurality of communities on behalf of a plurality of member organizations by a social networking system associated with the database system, members of each community having access to a corresponding set of records stored in the database system;
• displaying, in a user interface on a display of a device of a first user of the social networking system, one or more selections operable to assign one or more records to one or more cross-community streams, each of the one or more cross-community streams being a feed viewable by members of a plurality of communities, assignment of a record to a cross-community stream causing the cross-community stream to include feed content relating to the record;
• processing a first request, from the first user via the user interface, to assign a first set of one or more records to a first cross-community stream, the first cross-community stream being viewable by members of at least:
• a first one of the plurality of communities, and
• a second one of the plurality of communities;
• and
• generating or updating, responsive to processing the first request, the first cross-community stream.
