Abstract
A multi-screen user device and methods for performing a copy-paste operation using finger gestures are disclosed. A first finger gesture is used to select a display area from which data is to be copied. Subsequently, a drag finger gesture is used to identify where the data that is to be pasted. The drag may extend across a non-display boundary between a first and second display screen of the multi-screen device.

A method of performing copy and paste operations in a multi-display device, comprising:
- rendering a first application to a first display of the multi-display device and a second application to a second display of the multi-display device;
- receiving a first input gesture at a source display of the multi-display device corresponding to an instruction to copy a first selected content associated with the source display, wherein the source display is a first one of the first display or the second display of the multi-display device;
- determining which display of the first display or the second display of the multi-display device corresponds to the source display receiving the first input gesture;
- determining, based on the determination of the source display, a source area including the first selected content;
- determining a display location for every change in position of the first input gesture as the first input gesture moves from the source display to a target display, wherein the target display is a second one of the first display or the second display of the multi-display device other than the first one;
- determining that the first input gesture is no longer provided on any display of the multi-display device for a predetermined amount of time;
- determining whether a last known display location for the first input gesture on the target display can accept the first selected content;
- copying, in response to determining that the first input gesture is no longer provided on any display of the display device for the predetermined amount of time and upon determining that the last known display location for the first input gesture can accept the first selected content, the first selected content to a clipboard;
- and
- pasting, automatically, the first selected content to the last known display location for the first input gesture on the target display of the multi-display device.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon instructions that cause a computing system to execute a method, the instructions comprising:
- instructions configured to render a first application to a first display of a multi-display device and render a second application to a second display of the multi-display device;
- instructions configured to receive a first input gesture at a source display of the multi-display device corresponding to an instruction to copy a first selected content associated with the source display, wherein the source display is a first one of the first display or the second display of the multi-display device;
- instructions configured to determine which display of the first display or the second display of the multi-display device corresponds to the source display receiving the first input gesture;
- instructions configured to determine, based on the determination of the source display, a source area including the first selected content;
- instructions configured to determine a display location for every change in position of the first input gesture as the first input gesture moves from the source display to a target display, wherein the target display is a second one of the first display or the second display of the multi-display device other than the first one;
- instructions configured to determine that the first input gesture is no longer provided on any display of the multi-display device for a predetermined amount of time;
- instructions configured to determine whether a last known display location for the first input gesture on the target display can accept the first selected content;
- instructions configured to copy, in response to determining that the first input gesture is no longer provided on any display of the display device for the predetermined amount of time and upon determining that the last known display location for the first input gesture can accept the first selected content, the first selected content to a clipboard;
- and
- instructions configured to paste, automatically, the first selected content to the last known display location for the first input gesture on the target display of the multi-display device.
A multi-display user device, comprising:
- a first display rendering a first display area of a first application;
- a second display rendering a second display area of a second application;
- and
- a non-transitory computer-readable medium having instructions stored thereon that include:
- a clipboard application configured to receive a first input gesture at a source display of the multi-display user device corresponding to an instruction to copy a first selected content associated with the source display, wherein the source display is a first one of the first display or the second display of the multi-display user device, determine which display of the first display or the second display of the multi-display user device corresponds to the source display receiving the first input gesture, determine, based on the determination of the source display, a source area including the first selected content;
- determining a display location for every change in position of the first input gesture as the first input gesture moves from the source display to a target display, wherein the target display is a second one of the first display or the second display of the multi-display user device other than the first one, determine that the first input gesture is no longer provided on any display of the multi-display user device for a predetermined amount of time, determine whether a last known display location for the first input gesture on the target display can accept the first selected content, copy, in response to determining that the first input gesture is no longer provided on any display of the display device for the predetermined amount of time and upon determining that the last known display location for the first input gesture can accept the first selected content, the first selected content to a clipboard, and paste, automatically, the first selected content to the last known display location for the first input gesture on the target display of the multi-display user device.
