Abstract
A piston and combustion chamber including piston crown grooves extending from the combustion bowl, promoting swirl and mix within the compressed atmospheric air/gases made up of 78% nitrogen along with 20% oxygen locked in the bowl into an ideal mix with the introduced fuel forming into an ideal charge trapped in the bowl of the piston crown improve thermal efficiencies by overcoming erratic, incomplete and improper combustion resulting in lower emissions that can prevent environmental damages due to pollution from UHC, CO, NOx, soot with the least carbon dioxide formations when using carbon rich fuels such as diesel engine operations under full load.
Claims20
A combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine, comprising:
- a combustion cavity having an end surface and receiving a combustion mixture therein;
- a piston movable into said combustion cavity toward said end surface, said piston including a combustion surface facing said combustion chamber end surface and including fluid passages therein disposed to induce a swirl motion of said combustion mixture in response to compressing motion of said combustion surface toward said combustion cavity end surface.
A piston for use in an internal combustion engine, comprising:
- a piston body movable into a combustion cavity along a direction, said piston including a crown facing said direction having a combustion surface, and including fluid passages disposed to induce a swirl motion of said combustion mixture in response to motion of said piston along said dimension.
A method of providing combustion in a chamber of an internal combustion engine, comprising:
- providing a combustion cavity having an end surface and receiving a combustion mixture therein;
- providing a piston movable into said combustion cavity toward said end surface, said piston including a combustion surface facing said combustion chamber end surface;
- providing fluid passages in said piston disposed to induce a swirl motion of said combustion mixture in response to piston motion of said combustion surface relative to said combustion cavity end surface;
- and
- optimizing combustion by placement of said fluid passages on said piston and dimensions of said fluid passages.
