Abstract
A system that incorporates teachings of the present disclosure may include, for example, a system that generates an avatar having a first behavior determined by a user profile of a user. An avatar profile is received from a content source for modifying the avatar according to a second behavior. The avatar is modified to generate an adaptive avatar based on the avatar profile. The adaptive avatar has, at least in part, the second behavior determined by the avatar profile, while retaining, at least in part, the first behavior determined by the user profile of the user. Other embodiments are disclosed.

A system comprising a memory storing executable computer instructions that, when executed by a processor, perform the operations of:
- providing an avatar image for presentation on a media device, the avatar image having characteristics that correlate to a user profile;
- communicating with one or more content sources based on the avatar image;
- determining that a content source satisfies at least one response to the presented avatar image based on communicating with the one or more content sources;
- receiving an avatar profile from the content source;
- adapting the avatar image correlated to the avatar profile, the adapting retaining one or characteristics of the avatar image correlated to the user profile;
- and
- providing the adapted avatar image for presentation on the media device.
A non-transitory machine-readable storage medium, comprising executable instructions that, when executed by a processing system including a processor, facilitate performance of operations comprising:
- providing an avatar image for presentation on a media device, the avatar image having characteristics that correlate to a user profile;
- communicating with one or more content sources based on the avatar image;
- determining that a content source satisfies at least one response to the presented avatar image based on communicating with the one or more content sources;
- receiving an avatar profile from the content source;
- adapting the avatar image correlated to the user profile, the adapting retaining one or characteristics of the avatar image correlated to the user profile;
- and
- providing the adapted avatar image for presentation on the media device.
A method comprising:
- providing an avatar image for presentation on a media device, the avatar image having characteristics that correlate to a user profile;
- communicating with one or more content sources based on the avatar image;
- determining that a content source satisfies a received at least one response to the presented avatar image based on communicating with the one or more content sources;
- receiving an avatar profile from the content source;
- adapting the avatar image correlated to the avatar profile, the adapting retaining one or characteristics of the avatar image correlated to the user profile;
- and
- providing the adapted avatar image for presentation on the media device.
