Abstract
An espresso cartridge includes contours under a rim of the espresso cartridge for guiding and sealing the espresso cartridge in an espresso brewing machine. Espresso brewing machines inject a high pressure flow of water heated to near boiling temperature into the espresso cartridge to brew espresso. As a result, a very good seal is required between the espresso cartridge rim and the espresso brewing machine to prevent leaking. The contours includes a first contour which centers the espresso cartridge in the machine and a second contour which is crushed to seal the espresso cartridge to a brewing chamber base.
Claims14
An espresso cartridge, comprising:
- a cartridge as a container having an opening;
- and
- a cartridge lid attached to the cartridge base and configured to cover the cartridge base opening;
- wherein the cartridge lid includes a cartridge rim overhanging the cartridge base and forming a closed periphery around the cartridge lid:
- and
- wherein the cartridge rim includes a sealing contour on a bottom surface of the cartridge rim, configured to extend toward the cartridge base.
An espresso cartridge, comprising:
- an espresso cartridge base configured to contain a single serving of finely ground coffee beans;
- a cartridge lid sealing the cartridge base;
- a cartridge rim forming a dosed circumference around the cartridge lid;
- a sealing contour forming a closed circumferential ridge on a bottom surface of the cartridge rim, the sealing contour configured to extend toward a raised ridge of a brewing chamber base and to contact the raised ridge of the brewing chamber base when the espresso cartridge is disposed in the brewing chamber;
- and
- the sealing contour is configured to be at least partially crushed by the raised edge of the brewing chamber base when the sealing contour is pressed against the raised edge of the brewing chamber base.
An espresso cartridge, comprising:,
- an espresso cartridge base configured to contain a single serving of finely ground coffee beans;
- a cartridge lid sealing the cartridge base;
- a cartridge rim forming a dosed circumference around the cartridge lid;
- a sealing contour disposed on a bottom surface of the cartridge rim forming a dosed circumferential ridge on the bottom surface of the cartridge rim, the sealing contour configured to extend toward a raised ridge of a brewing chamber base and to contact the raised ridge of the brewing chamber base when the espresso cartridge is disposed in the brewing chamber;
- and
- a centering contour disposed on the bottom surface of the cartridge rim concentric with the sealing contour and having a radius greater than the sealing contour and including a peak reaching farther toward the raised ridge of the brewing chamber base than is the sealing contour to position the espresso cartridge in the brewing chamber.
