Abstract
Methods, apparatus, systems and articles of manufacture are disclosed to generate reference signatures from streaming media through the collection of metadata, generation of audio signatures, and association of the metadata with the generated audio signatures. The disclosure consists of a media monitor that collects metadata and generates audio signatures at a household and a central processing facility that generates reference signatures therefrom.
Claims17
A media monitor apparatus comprising:
- a media metadata extractor to collect metadata associated with an application that is presenting media on a media device;
- an audio signature generator to generate an audio signature from audio associated with media presented by the media device while the metadata is collected;
- a timestamper to associate a first timestamp with the audio signature and a second timestamp with the metadata;
- and
- a log file reporter to transmit the audio signature, the metadata and the first and second timestamps.
A central facility apparatus comprising:
- a log file receiver to access an audio signature, metadata and timestamps associated with media presented via a media device;
- an audio and metadata associator to determine that the metadata and the audio signature are from the media device and have similar timestamps;
- and
- a reference signature generator to associate information from the metadata with the audio signature to create a reference audio signature.
A non-transitory computer readable storage medium comprising instructions which, when executed, cause a machine to at least:
- collect metadata associated with an application that is presenting media on a media device;
- generate an audio signature from audio associated with media presented by the media device while the metadata is collected;
- associate a first timestamp with the audio signature and a second timestamp with the metadata;
- and
- transmit the audio signature, the metadata and the first and second timestamps.
