Enhanced Service Compatibility With Clients

A system comprising:

• a user device configured to:
• transmit a first request for content,
• receive a manifest comprising a first resource locator, wherein the first resource locator comprises encoded information,
• transmit the encoded information and a second request for at least a portion of the content,
• receive a redirect message comprising a second resource locator, and
• transmit, based on the second resource locator, a third request for at least the portion of the content;
• a content device configured to transmit the first resource locator;
• and
• a redirect device configured to:
• decode the encoded information,
• determine, based on the encoded information, the second resource locator and service information for a service associated with the content, and
• transmit the redirect message.

A method comprising:

• transmitting, by a user device, to a content device, a first request for content;
• in response to the first request, receiving, by the user device, from the content device, a first resource locator comprising encoded information;
• transmitting, by the user device, to a redirect device, based on the first resource locator, a second request for at least a portion of the content,
• in response to requesting the content using the first resource locator and based on the encoded information, receiving, by the user device, from the redirect device, a redirect message comprising a second resource locator;
• and
• transmitting, based on the second resource locator, a third request for at least the portion of the content.
