Abstract
Systems and methods for discovering and provisioning computing devices within a computing environment. An example method may comprise: loading a first kernel from a removable storage, wherein the first kernel identifies device information of the computing device when executed; transmitting a provisioning request comprising the device information to a provisioning device over a network; receiving provisioning data and a second kernel over a network, the second kernel comprising an operating system installer; and overwriting the first kernel with the second kernel.

A method comprising:
- loading, by a processing device, a first kernel from a removable storage on a computing device;
- transmitting, by the processing device, a provisioning request and a security token to a provisioning device over a network, wherein the security token is used to authenticate the computing device to the provisioning device;
- receiving, by the processing device, provisioning data and a second kernel over the network, the second kernel comprising an operating system installer, wherein the provisioning data comprises information identifying a location on the network for the operating system installer and an instruction to overwrite the first kernel with the second kernel.
A method comprising:
- loading, by a processing device, a first kernel from a removable storage on a computing device;
- transmitting, by the processing device, a provisioning request to a provisioning device over a network;
- receiving, by the processing device, provisioning data and a second kernel over the network, the second kernel comprising an operating system installer, wherein the provisioning data comprises information identifying a location on the network for the operating system installer, wherein the second kernel installs a third kernel on the computing device.
A method comprising:
- receiving, by a provisioning device, a provisioning request comprising device information from a computing device over a network, wherein the device information is identified by a first kernel loaded on the computing device, wherein the first kernel is loaded from a removable storage on the computing device;
- selecting, by the provisioning device, a second kernel in view of the device information, wherein the second kernel comprising an operating system installer;
- sending, by the provisioning device, information identifying a location on the network for the operating system installer and an instruction to overwrite the first kernel with the second kernel.
A method comprising:
- receiving, by a provisioning device, a provisioning request and a security token from a computing device over a network, wherein the device information is identified by a first kernel loaded on the computing device, wherein the first kernel is loaded from a removable storage on the computing device;
- authenticating, by the provisioning device, the computing device using the security token;
- sending, by the provisioning device, provisioning data and a second kernel over the network, the second kernel comprising an operating system installer, wherein the provisioning data comprises information identifying a location on the network for the operating system installer and an instruction to overwrite the first kernel with the second kernel.
A system comprising,
- a memory;
- and
- a processing device operatively coupled to the memory, the processing device to:
- load a first kernel from a removable storage, the first kernel identifying device information of a computing device when executed;
- transmit a provisioning request comprising the device information to a provisioning device over a network;
- receive provisioning data and a second kernel over a network, the second kernel comprising an operating system installer;
- and
- overwrite the first kernel with the second kernel.
