Collaborative Interaction with Virtual Reality Video

In a digital medium environment to generate annotations as part of a virtual-reality (VR) video, a source VR device comprising:

• a processing system;
• orientation tracking sensors;
• an output device;
• and
• a computer-readable storage medium having instructions stored thereon that, responsive to execution by the processing system, causes the processing system to perform operations comprising:
• outputting the VR video by the output device with respect to an orientation detected using the orientation tracking sensors;
• receiving an input defining an annotation with respect to the VR video;
• generating collaboration data that associates the annotation with a timestamp of the VR video and a coordinate of the VR video;
• and
• transmitting the generated collaboration data for receipt by a reviewing VR device to cause output of the annotation with respect to the VR video by the reviewing VR device based on the timestamp and the coordinate.

In a digital medium environment, a system comprising a source virtual reality (VR) device supporting collaboration with a reviewing VR device, the reviewing VR device comprising:

• means for displaying VR video in a user interface by an output device;
• means for receiving an input to collaborate with the reviewing VR device;
• means for generating orientation data, the orientation data indicating an orientation with respect to the VR video as output by the source VR device;
• and
• means for forming a communication that includes the orientation data for communication to the reviewing VR device, the orientation data configured to cause output of a viewport based on the orientation received from the source VR device concurrently with an output of the VR video based on an orientation detected by orientation tracking sensors of the reviewing VR device.
