Disclosed herein is a therapeutic comprising hypoxia inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1α). Also disclosed herein is a method for treating hypoxia or ischemia in a subject in need thereof. The method may comprise administering the vaccine to the subject in need thereof.

A therapeutic comprising hypoxia inducible factor-1 alpha (HIF-1α).
A nucleic acid molecule comprising a nucleotide sequence selected from the group consisting of:
- SEQ ID NO:5 and a nucleotide sequence that is 95% identical or greater to SEQ ID NO:5.
An amino acid molecule comprising an amino acid sequence selected from the group consisting of:
- SEQ ID NO:6 and an amino acid sequence that is 95% identical or greater to SEQ ID NO:6.
