Claims18
A container for protecting baked goods during shipment, comprising:
- a lid;
- and
- a base which includes a plurality of wells, each well including a well bottom and a well sidewall and being adapted for receiving and supporting a baked good;
- and
- wherein a plurality of interconnected center posts are formed in the base and extend upwardly from a base bottom, each center post being positioned adjacent four of the wells and connected to adjacent center posts through a well sidewall and each center post including at least one retainer shoulder formed proximate an upper end of the center post and arranged to positively capture and restrain axial movement of the baked goods in each of the four adjacent wells.
A method of thermoforming a container for protecting baked goods, comprising:
- a) providing a sheet of plastic material that is at least partially transparent;
- b) providing a base mold and a lid mold;
- b) thermoforming a lid from a portion of the sheet of plastic material using the lid mold;
- and
- c) thermoforming a base from a portion of the sheet using the base mold, the base includes a plurality of wells, each well including a well bottom and a well sidewall and being adapted for receiving and supporting a baked good;
- and
- wherein a plurality of interconnected center posts are formed in the base and extend upwardly from a base bottom, each center post being positioned adjacent four of the wells and connected to adjacent center posts through a well sidewall and each center post including at least one retainer shoulder formed proximate an upper end of the center post by creating an undercut in the base mold, the at least one retaining shoulder being arranged to positively capture and restrain axial movement of the baked goods in each of the four adjacent wells.
