Systems and methods for automatically passing vehicles

A system comprising:

• one or more sensors;
• communication circuitry;
• one or more processors coupled to the one or more sensors and the communication circuitry;
• and
• a memory including instructions, which when executed by the one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to perform a method comprising:
• determining one or more characteristics about an area surrounding a vehicle via the one or more sensors, wherein:
• the one or more characteristics about the area surrounding the vehicle comprise one or more of:
• one or more characteristics about a road on which the vehicle is traveling;
• and
• one or more characteristics about one or more other vehicles on the road;
• determining that the one or more vehicle passing criteria are satisfied;
• determining whether passing is allowed on the road at a current location of the vehicle;
• and
• in response to determining whether passing is allowed:
• in accordance with a determination that passing is allowed, performing an automated pass operation to pass the one or more other vehicles;
• in accordance with a determination that passing is not allowed, forgoing performing the automated pass operation to pass the one or more other vehicles.
