A shutoff vent is disclosed. A main body has a first end and a second end. The main body defines a first opening towards the first end, a second opening towards the second end, and a mating port between the first opening and the second opening. The first opening and the second opening are in communication through the mating port to define a gas passageway. A translatable plug is disposed within the main body, and the gas passageway extends past the translatable plug. The translatable plug is configured to reversibly translate towards the second end to sealably obstruct the mating port. In some examples, the translatable plug is configured to translate towards the second end when force is applied to the translatable plug from the first end.
A shutoff vent comprising:
The shutoff vent of any of claims 1 and 3-24, further comprising a first gas-permeable substrate between the first opening and the second opening to define the gas passageway.
The shutoff vent of any of claims 1-2 and 4-24, wherein the first gas-permeable substrate is coupled to the main body across the first opening and the translatable plug is coupled to a central region of the first gas-permeable substrate.
The shutoff vent of any of claims 1-3 and 5-24, wherein the translatable plug is coupled to the first gas-permeable substrate.
The shutoff vent of any of claims 1-4 and 6-24, further comprising a carrier coupled to the translatable plug, wherein the carrier is coupled to the main body and biases the translatable plug in a spaced relationship with the mating port.
The shutoff vent of any of claims 1-5 and 7-24, the carrier having a perimeter region further defining the gas passageway, wherein the translatable plug is coupled to the carrier central to the perimeter region.
The shutoff vent of any of claims 1-6 and 8-24, wherein the carrier comprises a first gas-permeable substrate.
The shutoff vent of any of claims 1-7 and 9-24, wherein the carrier is disposed across the first opening.
The shutoff vent of any of claims 1-8 and 10-24, wherein the carrier is configured to deflect towards the second end when force is applied to the translatable plug from the first end, thereby translating the translatable plug to obstruct the mating port.
The shutoff vent of any of claims 1-9 and 11-24, wherein the carrier comprises a diaphragm spider region, the diaphragm spider region configured to accommodate translation of the translatable plug.
The shutoff vent of any of claims 1-10 and 12-24, wherein the carrier comprises a substantially liquid and gas impermeable material.
The shutoff vent of any of claims 1-11 and 13-24, wherein the gas passageway is defined by openings defined by the carrier.
The shutoff vent of any of claims 1-12 and 14-24, wherein the gas passageway is further defined by an opening defined by the translatable plug.
The shutoff vent of any of claims 1-13 and 15-24, wherein the translatable plug and the carrier are a single cohesive component.
The shutoff vent of any of claims 1-14 and 16-24, wherein the carrier comprises an elastomer.
The shutoff vent of any of claims 1-15 and 17-24, wherein the carrier comprises a thermoplastic elastomer.
The shutoff vent of any of claims 1-16 and 18-24, wherein the carrier comprises rubber.

The shutoff vent of any of claims 1-20 and 22-24, wherein the mating port is substantially frustoconical.
The shutoff vent of any of claims 1-21 and 23-24, wherein the first gas-permeable substrate comprises expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE).
The shutoff vent of any of claims 1-22 and 24, wherein the first gas-permeable substrate is oleophobic.
A shutoff vent comprising:
The shutoff vent of any of claims 25 and 27-46, further comprising a first gas-permeable substrate between the first opening and the second opening to define the gas passageway.
The shutoff vent of any of claims 25-26 and 28-46, further comprising a second gas-permeable substrate region disposed across the second opening.
