Surgical stapler flexible distal tip

A tool assembly for a surgical device, comprising:

• a first jaw member defining a first planar tissue contact surface and a first angular surface positioned distally of the first planar tissue contact surface:
• a second jaw member defining a second planar tissue contact surface and a second angular surface positioned distally of the second planar tissue contact surface, the first jaw member and the second jaw member being movable in relation to each other between open and closed positions;
• and
• a compressible material secured to the first angular surface of the first jaw member, the compressible material engaging the second angular surface of the second jaw member when the first and second jaw members are in the closed position.

A surgical device comprising:

• a handle assembly;
• an elongated member extending from the handle assembly;
• and
• a tool assembly supported on a distal end of the elongated member, the tool assembly including:
• a first jaw member defining a first planar tissue contact surface and a first angular surface positioned distally of the first planar tissue contact surface:
• a second jaw member defining a second planar tissue contact surface and a second angular surface positioned distally of the second planar tissue contact surface, the first jaw member and the second jaw member being movable in relation to each other between open and closed positions;
• and
• a compressible material secured to the first angular surface of the first jaw member, the compressible material engaging the second angular surface of the second jaw member when the first and second jaw members are in the closed position.

A kit comprising:

• a tool assembly comprising:
• a first jaw member defining a first planar tissue contact surface and a first angular surface positioned distally of the first planar tissue contact surface;
• a second jaw member defining a second planar tissue contact surface and a second angular surface positioned distally of the second planar tissue contact surface, the first jaw member and the second jaw member being movable in relation to each other between open and closed positions;
• a compressible material configured to be secured to the first angular surface of the first jaw member the compressible material dimensioned to engage the second angular surface of the second jaw member when the compressible material is secured to the first angular surface and the first and second jaw members are in the closed position;
• and
• a sterile package supporting the compressible material and the tool assembly.
