Abstract
This document relates to materials and methods for domesticating oilseed (e.g., pennycress) plants. For example, oilseed plants having reduced seedpod shatter, as well as materials and methods for making and using oilseed plants having reduced seedpod shatter are provided.
Claims24
An oilseed plant having reduced seedpod shatter as compared to a corresponding wild type oilseed plant;
- wherein said oilseed plant comprises a modification in gene encoding a polypeptide involved in seedpod shatter;
- wherein said gene is selected from the group consisting of spatula (SPT), alcatraz (ALC), indehiscent (IND), replumless (RPL), shatterproof 1 (SHP1), shatterproof 2 (SHP2), fruitfull (FUL), nac secondary wall thickening promoting factor 1 (NST1), nac secondary wall thickening promoting factor 3 (NST3), pinoid (PID), dz polygalacturonase 1 (ADPG1), and dz polygalacturonase 2 (ADPG2);
- and wherein said modified gene encodes a modified polypeptide.
A method for generating an oilseed plant having reduced seedpod shatter as compared to a corresponding wild type oilseed plant, the method comprising:
- modifying a gene in the oilseed plant genome, wherein said gene encodes a polypeptide involved in seedpod shatter;
- wherein said gene is selected from the group consisting of spatula (SPT) alcatraz (ALC), indehiscent (IND), replumless (RPL), shatterproof 1 (SHP1), shatterproof 2 (SHP2), fruitfull (FUL), nac secondary wall thickening promoting factor 1 (NST1), nac secondary wall thickening promoting factor 3 (NST3), pinoid (PID), dz polygalacturonase 1 (ADPG1), and dz polygalacturonase 2 (ADPG2);
- and wherein said modified gene encodes a modified polypeptide.
