Abstract
A tire inflation system and method for a tire supported by a wheel, the tire inflation system including a pump system including a pump cavity configured to fluidly connect to the tire, an actuating element configured to actuate relative the pump cavity, a drive mechanism rotatably coupled to the wheel, the drive mechanism including a motion transformer and an eccentric mass, a valve fluidly connecting the pump cavity to a fluid reservoir; and a control system configured to operate the valve.
Claims20
A tire pressure management system for a tire supported by a wheel, the system comprising:
- a pump comprising a pump chamber;
- a housing mounted to the pump, the housing configured to mount the pump to a hub of the wheel;
- a tire inflation manifold configured to fluidly connect the pump chamber to the tire;
- a valve, connected between the pump chamber and a fluid sink, wherein the valve is separate from the tire inflation manifold;
- and
- a control system configured to selectively actuate the valve based on a parameter of the pump.
A tire pressure management system for a tire supported by a wheel, the system comprising:
- a housing configured to mount to a surface of the wheel;
- a pump mounted to the housing, the pump comprising an actuation mechanism and a pump chamber;
- a drive mechanism actuatably connected to the actuation mechanism;
- a tire inflation manifold configured to fluidly connect the pump chamber to the tire;
- and
- a valve, separate from the tire inflation manifold, that selectively fluidly connects the pump chamber to an ambient environment, wherein the valve is configured to actuate between an open and closed position based on a parameter of the pump.
