Abstract
A compounded elastomer exhibiting excellent mechanical and heat transfer properties is described. The elastomer can include two or more different carbon blacks, and one of the carbon blacks is a partially crystallized carbon black.
Claims28
A compounded elastomer comprising:
- an elastomeric resin;
- a first carbon black;
- a second carbon black different from the first carbon black, the second carbon black a partially crystallized carbon black having an OAN structure of greater than 120 cm3/100 g and less than 200 cm3/100 g, a surface energy of less than 10 mJ/m2 and a Raman microcrystalline planar size (La) of greater than or equal to 25 Å and less than or equal to 50 Å.
A compounded butyl elastomer comprising at least two different carbon blacks wherein the butyl elastomer exhibits a thermal transfer efficiency of greater than 0.25 W/mK and an ((elongation at break)×(tensile strength))/100% of greater than 80.
A butyl elastomer comprising:
- at least 40 phr carbon black having a Raman microcrystalline planar size (La) of greater than or equal to 22 Å and less than 45 Å, an OAN structure of greater than 120 and less than 200 cm3/100 g, and wherein the butyl elastomer has a thermal conductivity of greater than 0.29 W/mK and a tensile strength at 25° C. of greater than 14.0.
A compounded elastomer comprising:
- an elastomeric resin;
- and
- a carbon black exhibiting a surface energy of less than 10 mJ/m,2 a Raman microcrystalline planar size (La) of between 23 Å and 45 Å and an OAN of greater than 85 cm3/100 g and less than 200 cm3/100 g.
A compounded butyl elastomer comprising at least 40 phr carbon black, wherein the (thermal conductivity in W/mK)×(elongation at break %)×(tensile strength in MPa) of the elastomer is greater than 2200.
