Abstract
A writing instrument assembly has a writing instrument with a body and a working tip extended or extendable from the body. A holder has a landing spot for the writing instrument. The writing instrument is magnetically and detachably retained at the landing spot when attached to the holder. The working tip is sheathed or covered automatically when the writing instrument is attached to the holder and is unsheathed or uncovered when detached from the holder.

A writing instrument assembly comprising:
- a writing instrument having a body and a working tip extended from the body;
- and
- a holder providing a landing spot for the writing instrument,
- wherein the writing instrument is magnetically and detachably retained at the landing spot when attached to the holder,
- wherein the working tip is sheathed or covered automatically when the writing instrument is attached to the holder, and
- wherein the working tip is exposed or uncovered automatically when the writing instrument is detached from the holder.

A writing instrument assembly comprising:
- a writing instrument having a body and a working tip extendable from the body;
- and
- a mechanism at least partly provided within the body, the mechanism being magnetically actuable to automatically extend the working tip from and retract the working tip into the body and/or to automatically extend a tip cover of the mechanism to cover and to automatically retract the tip cover from covering the working tip, depending on the position of the mechanism relative to one or more magnets,
- wherein the mechanism does not include any other latching or locking device to retain the working tip and/or the tip cover in a given position, other than the one or more magnets, and
- wherein a portion of the mechanism is provided on a holder for the writing instrument.

A writing instrument comprising:
- a hollow body;
- a refill assembly held within the body, the refill assembly having a refill holder and a refill tube retained by the refill holder;
- an actuator protruding from one end of the body and coupled to the refill holder,
- wherein the actuator is actuable to sufficiently expose a portion of the refill tube from an opening in another end of the body, wherein the refill tube is removable from the refill holder and the body by grasping the sufficiently exposed portion and withdrawing the refill tube through the opening, and wherein a replacement refill tube is insertable into the opening and attached to the refill holder.
