## Abstract

The present disclosure is related to a 5th generation (5G) or pre-5G communication system for supporting a higher data rate than a 4th generation (4G) communication system such as long term evolution (LTE). According to various embodiments of the present disclosure, a method for operating a base station in a wireless communication system is provided. The method comprises: generating remaining minimum system information (RMSI) comprising random access channel (RACH) configuration, wherein the RACH configuration comprises an association between RACH resources and one of a synchronization signal (SS) block and channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) resources; and transmitting, to a user equipment (UE), the RMSI.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method for operating a base station in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:
generating remaining minimum system information (RMSI) comprising random access channel (RACH) configuration, wherein the RACH configuration comprises relationship information between RACH resources and one of a synchronization signal (SS) block or channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) resources; and
transmitting, to a user equipment (UE), the RMSI.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the RACH configuration is broadcast in SS blocks used for the RMSI within a cell.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the RACH configuration comprises one of a common RACH configuration across all SS blocks, a part of RACH configuration common across all SS blocks, or a different RACH configuration across all SS blocks.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the RACH configuration in the RMSI indicates a numerology for at least one of RACH message 1, RACH message 2, RACH message 3, or RACH message 4.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein the relationship information between the RACH resources and the one of the SS block or the CSI-RS resource is determined based on at least one of a time based mapping or a frequency based mapping.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, a plurality of bits for the RACH configuration in the RMSI is indicated to the UE using at least one of the RMSI, a physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) RMSI or a physical broadcast channel (PBCH).

### Claim 7 (depends on 6)

The method of claim 6, wherein the RACH configuration in the RMSI is configured based on one of a most significant bit (MSB) of the plurality of bits or a least significant bit (LSB) of the plurality of bits.

### Claim 8

A method for operating a user equipment (UE) in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:
receiving, from a base station, remaining minimum system information (RMSI) comprising random access channel (RACH) configuration, wherein the RACH configuration comprises relationship information between RACH resources and one of a synchronization signal (SS) block and channel state information reference signal (CSI-RS) resources; and
performing a random access procedure based on the relationship information.
