## Abstract

Systems and methods are provided for video coding (e.g., encoding and/or decoding). A coding device may include a processor. The processor may be configured to receive a video frame and partition the video frame into a super coding units (SCUs). The processor may be configured to partition each of the SCUs into coding tree units (CTUs) based on a coding mode.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A coding device comprising:
a processor configured to:
receive a partition mode indicator indicating at least one of a first partition mode or a second partition mode for decoding a super coding unit (SCU),

wherein N is greater than or equal to 2;
receive the SCU;
determine a partition mode for decoding the SCU based on the partition mode indicator; and
decode the SCU based on the partition mode.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

determine that the partition mode is the first partition mode; and
partition the SCU into equally sized sub-blocks based on determining that the partition mode is the first partition mode.

### Claim 3 (depends on 2)

The coding device of claim 2, wherein a number of the equally sized sub-blocks comprises a number indicated in a signal, and wherein the signal is received before the partition mode indicator is received.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The coding device of claim 1, wherein the processor is further configured to:
determine that the partition mode is the second partition mode; and
partition the SCU into variably sized sub-blocks based on determining that the partition mode is the second partition mode.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The coding device of claim 1, wherein the processor is further configured to:
determine that the partition mode is the first partition mode; and
determine at least one of a maximum width of a super-block, a maximum height of a super-block, a depth of minimum coding unit (MCU) relative to the SCU, or a depth of a Coding Tree Unit (CTU) relative to the SCU.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The coding device of claim 1, wherein the second partition mode indicates that the SCU is to be partitioned into variably sized sub-blocks based on additional signaling.

### Claim 7

A method comprising:
receiving a partition mode indicator indicating at least one of a first partition mode or a second partition mode for a super coding unit (SCU),
wherein the first partition mode indicates that the SCU is to be partitioned into N×N equally sized sub-blocks, and
wherein N is greater than or equal to 2;
receiving the SCU;
determining a partition mode for the SCU based on the partition mode indicator; and
decoding the SCU based on the partition mode.

### Claim 8 (depends on 7)

The method of claim 7, further comprising:
determining that the partition mode is the first partition mode; and
partitioning the SCU into equally sized sub-blocks based on determining that the partition mode is the first partition mode.

### Claim 9 (depends on 8)

The method of claim 8, further comprising receiving a signal before the partition mode indicator is received, wherein the signal indicates that a number of the equally sized sub-blocks comprises a number indicated in the signal.

### Claim 10 (depends on 7)

The method of claim 7, further comprising:
determining that the partition mode is the second partition mode; and
partitioning the SCU into variably sized sub-blocks based on determining that the partition mode is the second partition mode.

### Claim 11 (depends on 7)

The method of claim 7, further comprising:
determining that the partition mode is the first partition mode; and
