## CPC

- G05B 23/0272: {Presentation of monitored results, e.g. selection of status reports to be displayed; Filtering information to the user}
- G05B: CONTROL OR REGULATING SYSTEMS IN GENERAL; FUNCTIONAL ELEMENTS OF SUCH SYSTEMS; MONITORING OR TESTING ARRANGEMENTS FOR SUCH SYSTEMS OR ELEMENTS (systems for controlling or regulating non-electric variables G05D; systems for regulating electric or magnetic variables G05F; control devices or systems insofar as characterised by mechanical features only G05G)

## Abstract

A method includes identifying changes in an alarm count for at least one alarm to be generated in an industrial process control and automation system. The changes in the alarm count are based on a plurality of different sets of alarm settings. The method also includes presenting the changes in the alarm count to a user and receiving a selection of one of the sets of alarm settings. The method further includes configuring the industrial process control and automation system with the selected set of alarm settings to enable the industrial process control and automation system to generate alarms using the selected set of alarm settings.

## Claims

### Claim 1

A method comprising:
identifying changes in an alarm count for at least one alarm to be generated in an industrial process control and automation system, the changes in the alarm count based on a plurality of different sets of alarm settings;
presenting the changes in the alarm count to a user;
receiving a selection of one of the sets of alarm settings; and
configuring the industrial process control and automation system with the selected set of alarm settings to enable the industrial process control and automation system to generate the least one alarm using the selected set of alarm settings.

### Claim 2 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein, for each of at least some of the sets of alarm settings, the changes in the alarm count identify a reduced number of alarms to be generated by the industrial process control and automation system.

### Claim 3 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein each of the sets of alarm settings includes one or more timer settings and a dead band setting.

### Claim 4 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, wherein presenting the changes in the alarm count comprises presenting the changes in the alarm count in a decision matrix.

### Claim 5 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising generating at least one of the sets of alarm settings based on seed values contained in a knowledge model.

### Claim 6 (depends on 1)

The method of claim 1, further comprising:
receiving at least one approval to configure the industrial process control and automation system with the selected set of alarm settings.

### Claim at position 7

-20. (canceled)

### Claim 21

A system comprising:
at least one processing device configured to:
identify changes in an alarm count for at least one alarm to be generated in an industrial process control and automation system, the changes in the alarm count based on a plurality of different sets of alarm settings;
present the changes in the alarm count to a user;
receive a selection of one of the sets of alarm settings; and
configure the industrial process control and automation system with the selected set of alarm settings to enable the industrial process control and automation system to generate the least one alarm using the selected set of alarm settings.

### Claim 22 (depends on 21)

The system of claim 21, wherein, for each of at least some of the sets of alarm settings, the changes in the alarm count identify a reduced number of alarms to be generated by the industrial process control and automation system.

### Claim 23 (depends on 21)

The system of claim 21, wherein each of the sets of alarm settings includes one or more timer settings and a dead band setting.

### Claim 24 (depends on 21)

The system of claim 21, wherein the at least one processing device is configured to present the changes in the alarm count in a decision matrix.

### Claim 25 (depends on 21)

The system of claim 21, wherein the at least one processing device is further configured to:
generate at least one of the sets of alarm settings based on seed values contained in a knowledge model.

### Claim 26 (depends on 21)

The system of claim 21, wherein the at least one processing device is further configured to:
receive at least one approval to configure the industrial process control and automation system with the selected set of alarm settings.

### Claim 27

A non-transitory computer readable medium containing instructions that, when executed by at least one processing device, cause the at least one processing device to:
identify changes in an alarm count for at least one alarm to be generated in an industrial process control and automation system, the changes in the alai m count based on a plurality of different sets of alarm settings;
present the changes in the alarm count to a user;
receive a selection of one of the sets of alarm settings; and
configure the industrial process control and automation system with the selected set of alarm settings to enable the industrial process control and automation system to generate the least one alarm using the selected set of alarm settings.

### Claim 28 (depends on 27)

The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 27, wherein, for each of at least some of the sets of alarm settings, the changes in the alarm count identify a reduced number of alarms to be generated by the industrial process control and automation system.

### Claim 29 (depends on 27)

The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 27, wherein each of the sets of alarm settings includes one or more timer settings and a dead band setting.

### Claim 30 (depends on 27)

The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 27, wherein the instructions to present the changes in the alarm count comprise instructions to present the changes in the alarm count in a decision matrix.

### Claim 31 (depends on 27)

The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 27, wherein the instructions further cause the at least one processing device to:
generate at least one of the sets of alarm settings based on seed values contained in a knowledge model.

### Claim 32 (depends on 27)

The non-transitory computer readable medium of claim 27, wherein the instructions further cause the at least one processing device to:
receive at least one approval to configure the industrial process control and automation system with the selected set of alarm settings.
