Abstract
Methods of treating cancer in a subject by administering a therapeutically effective amount of a polycationic polymer to the subject are provided. Methods of treating cancer in a subject by contacting a bodily fluid from a subject with a polycationic polymer are also provided. Methods of detecting cancer or metastasis of cancer by obtaining a sample from a subject and determining the level of circulating free DNA (cfDNA), cfRNA, inorganic polyphosphates or the number of exosomes or nucleosomes in the sample are also provided.
Claims33
A method of treating cancer in a subject comprising administering a therapeutically effective amount of a polycationic polymer to the subject.
A method of treating cancer in a subject comprising contacting a bodily fluid from a subject with a polycationic polymer, wherein the contacting removes invasion-promoting or metastatic molecules or particles from the bodily fluid of the subject.

A method of detecting cancer comprising obtaining a sample from a subject and determining a level of circulating free DNA (cfDNA), cfRNA, inorganic polyphosphates, exosomes or nucleosomes in the sample;
- and administering a polycationic polymer to the subject if cancer is detected, wherein an increase in the level of cfDNA, cfRNA, inorganic polyphosphates, exosomes or nucleosomes in the subject as compared to the level in a control subject without cancer is indicative of cancer in the subject.

A method of detecting metastasis of a cancer comprising obtaining more than one sample from a subject diagnosed with cancer over a period of time;
- determining a level of circulating free DNA (cfDNA), cfRNA, inorganic polyphosphates, exosomes or nucleosomes in each of the samples;
- comparing the levels of cfDNA, cfRNA, inorganic polyphosphates, exosomes or nucleosomes in the samples from the subject over time, wherein increasing cfDNA, cfRNA, inorganic polyphosphates, exosomes or nucleosomes over time is indicative of metastasis or advancing cancer;
- and
- administering a polycationic polymer to the subject if the cfDNA, cfRNA, inorganic polyphosphates, exosomes or nucleosomes are increased as compared to the cfDNA or nucleosomes in a control subject without cancer.
