Predictive Roaming within an Environment

A non-transitory machine readable storage medium having instructions embodied thereon, the instructions when executed cause a processor to perform a method for recommending handovers between access points, the method comprising:

• collecting handover data at a central computer from a plurality of communication devices within a defined geographic area, wherein the handover data pertains to handovers between a plurality of access points as the plurality of communication devices roam within the defined geographic area;
• determining patterns of handovers at the central computer system between the plurality of access points for the plurality of communications devices;
• identifying, at the central computer system, a first communication device connected to a first access point within the defined geographic area;
• predicting, at the central computer system, a roaming pattern for the first communication the communication device based on the determined patterns of handovers;
• determining, at the central computer system, a second access point within the defined geographic area as a candidate for the first communication device to handover to, based on the predicted roaming pattern of the first communication device;
• and
• sending a recommendation from the central computer system to the first communication device to handover to the second access point.

A system for recommending handovers between access points, comprising:

• a central computer system with a processor and memory configured to:
• collect handover data at a central computer from a plurality of communication devices within a defined geographic area, wherein the handover data pertains to handovers between a plurality of access points as the plurality of communication devices roam within the defined geographic area;
• determine patterns of handovers at the central computer system between the plurality of access points for the plurality of communications devices;
• identify, at the central computer system, a first communication device connected to a first access point within the defined geographic area;
• predict, at the central computer system, a roaming pattern for the first communication the communication device based on the determined patterns of handovers;
• determine, at the central computer system, a second access point within the defined geographic area as a candidate for the first communication device to handover to, based on the predicted roaming pattern of the first communication device;
• and
• send a recommendation from the central computer system to the first communication device to handover to the second access point.
