Abstract
A dry audio signal may be received. An envelope of the dry audio signal may be compared to a threshold of the playback device to determine a dry excess. A filter may be applied to the dry audio signal to generate a wet audio signal. An envelope of the wet audio signal may be compared to the threshold to determine a wet excess. Based on the dry and wet excess, a dry gain may be determined for the dry audio signal and a wet gain may be determined for the wet audio signal. The wet audio signal and the dry audio signals may be mixed in proportion to respective gains. The mixed audio signal may avoid exceeding an operational limit associated with audio playback on the playback device.

A playback device comprising:
- one or more processors;
- and
- tangible, non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon instructions executable by the one or more processors to cause the playback device to perform functions comprising:
- receiving a first audio signal for playback by the playback device;
- generating a second audio signal by applying a first filter to the first audio signal;
- comparing the first audio signal and the second audio signal to a first threshold;
- determining (i) a first gain associated with the first audio signal based on comparing the first audio signal to the first threshold, and (ii) a second gain associated with the second audio signal based on comparing the second audio signal to the first threshold;
- generating a third audio signal by mixing the first audio signal and the second audio signal according to the first gain and the second gain, respectively;
- generating a fourth audio signal by applying a second filter to the third audio signal;
- comparing the third audio signal and the fourth audio signal to a second threshold;
- determining (i) a third gain associated with the third audio signal based on comparing the third audio signal to the second threshold, and (ii) a fourth gain associated with the fourth audio signal based on comparing the fourth audio signal to the second threshold;
- generating a fifth audio signal by mixing the third audio signal and the fourth audio signal according to the third gain and fourth gain, respectively;
- and
- playing back audio based the fifth audio signal.
A tangible, non-transitory computer-readable medium having stored thereon instructions executable by one or more processors to cause a playback device to perform functions comprising:
