Method and apparatus for performing storage space management for multiple virtual machines

An apparatus for performing storage space management for a plurality of Virtual Machines (VMs), the apparatus being applied to a storage system comprising a plurality of storage servers, the apparatus comprising:

• a main storage server, wherein the main storage server is one of the plurality of storage servers and arranged to manage the storage system, and the main storage server is arranged to perform the following operations:
• receiving a request regarding any VM of the plurality of VMs;
• determining a storage region in the storage system according to the request to store data of the VM into the storage region, wherein the storage region is assigned to the VM;
• determining another storage region in the storage system according to geolocation classification information of at least one portion of storage servers within the plurality of storage servers, wherein the storage region and the other storage region are positioned in different storage servers within the at least one portion of storage servers, respectively;
• and
• controlling the storage system to store a replication version of the data into the other storage region.
