Method and apparatus for managing clinical trials and research

An apparatus comprising:

• at least one processor;
• and
• at least one memory including computer program code for one or more programs,
• the at least one memory and the computer program code configured to, with the at least one processor, cause the apparatus to perform at least the following,
• receive, by a clinical trial management platform, an input via a user interface element of a user interface of the clinical trial management platform, wherein the input specifies an edit or an update to a data record associated with tracking a clinical trial process;
• determine a workflow rule associated with the user interface element, wherein the workflow rule specifies one or more criteria for initiating a capture of a timing metric, a performance metric, or a combination thereof associated with the clinical trial process;
• initiate the capture of the timing metric, the performance metric, or a combination thereof based on an evaluation of the input against the one or more criteria;
• store the timing metric, the performance metric, or a combination thereof to update the data record;
• and
• update a plurality of user interface elements that are visible in the user interface based on the updated data record.

A computer-readable storage medium carrying one or more sequences of one or more instructions which, when executed by one or more processors, cause an apparatus to at least perform the following steps:

• receiving, by a clinical trial management platform, an input via a user interface element of a user interface of the clinical trial management platform, wherein the input specifies an edit or an update to a data record associated with tracking a clinical trial process;
• determining a workflow rule associated with the user interface element, wherein the workflow rule specifies one or more criteria for initiating a capture of a timing metric, a performance metric, or a combination thereof associated with the clinical trial process;
• initiating the capture of the timing metric, the performance metric, or a combination thereof based on an evaluation of the input against the one or more criteria;
• storing the timing metric, the performance metric, or a combination thereof to update the data record;
• and
• updating a plurality of user interface elements that are visible in the user interface based on the updated data record.
