Method for hydroformylating cyclooctadiene, comprising the method steps of:

• a) initially charging cyclooctadiene;
• b) adding a complex comprising:
• a metal atom selected from:
• Rh, Ru, Co, Ir, and
• a ligand having the structure (1):
• or
• adding a precursor complex comprising a metal atom selected from:
• Rh, Ru, Co, Ir, and a compound having the structure (1):
• c) feeding in H2 and CO,
• d) heating the reaction mixture, wherein the cyclooctadiene is converted to an aldehyde.
