Myricanol Derivatives and Uses Thereof for Treatment of Neurodegenerative Diseases

A method of reducing intracellular tau levels, wherein said method comprises administering, to cells comprising protein tau, an effective amount of a compound of formula B, formula G, formula H, or formula I:

• wherein each of R1-R4 of formula B is, independently, —H or any group that forms an ester or ether bond;
• wherein each of R1-R3 of formula G and formula I is, independently, —H or any group that forms an ester or ether bond;
• and
• wherein each of R1 and R2 of formula H is, independently, —H or any group that forms an ester or ether bond;
• whereby intracellular tau level is reduced.
