Abstract
A drawworks system for a mineral extraction system includes a drum mounted on a drum shaft and configured to support a cable. The system also includes a gearbox assembly having a gearbox housing, a gearbox supported by the gearbox housing and having a gearbox input shaft and a gearbox output shaft, wherein the gearbox input shaft is configured to be coupled to at least one motor and the gearbox output shaft is coupled to the drum shaft to drive rotation of the drum shaft and the drum, and a brake supported by the gearbox housing and coupled to the drum shaft to block rotation of the drum shaft and the drum, wherein the gearbox and the brake are positioned on one side of the drum along an axial axis of the drawworks system.
Claims18
A drawworks system for a mineral extraction system, comprising:
- a drum mounted on a drum shaft and configured to support a cable;
- a gearbox assembly, comprising:
- a gearbox housing;
- a gearbox supported within the gearbox housing and comprising a gearbox input shaft and a gearbox output shaft, wherein the gearbox input shaft is configured to be coupled to at least one motor and the gearbox output shaft is coupled to the drum shaft to drive rotation of the drum shaft and the drum;
- and
- a brake coupled to the gearbox housing and coupled to the drum shaft to block rotation of the drum shaft and the drum, wherein the gearbox and the brake are positioned on one side of the drum along an axial axis of the drawworks system.
A drawworks system for a mineral extraction system, comprising:
- a drum mounted on a drum shaft and configured to support a cable;
- a motor assembly configured to drive rotation of the drum shaft, comprising:
- a first motor and a first transmission configured to adjust a first power output of the first motor;
- and
- a second motor and a second transmission configured to adjust a second power output of the second motor.
A method of operating a drawworks system within a mineral extraction system, comprising:
- driving a drum supporting a cable that is coupled to a traveling block to lower and to raise a load supported by the traveling block relative to a drill floor at a first speed by operating a first motor that is coupled to a first transmission with a first gear ratio and a second motor that is coupled to a second transmission with the first gear ratio;
- and
- switching the first transmission to neutral and switching the second transmission to a second gear ratio to enable the drawworks system to lower and to raise the load relative to the drill floor at a second speed by operating the second motor.
