Abstract
A gaseous emissions treatment component is made by extruding a green ceramic mix through a die to form an extrusion having a honeycomb substrate with elongate cells extending its length and with the cells bounded by walls dividing adjacent cells from one another. Molten metal for use in induction heating of the component is placed in selected cells and is solidified by cooling.
Claims20
A method of making a gaseous emissions treatment component, comprising extruding green ceramic mix through a die to form an extrusion having a honeycomb substrate having a plurality of elongate cells extending along the extrusion, the cells bounded by walls dividing adjacent cells from one another, cutting off a length of the extrusion, placing molten metal for use in induction heating of the component in at least a part of at least some of the cells in said length, and solidifying the molten metal by cooling.
A method of making a gaseous emissions treatment component, comprising extruding green ceramic mix through a die to form an extrusion having a plurality of elongate cells extending along the extrusion, the cells bounded by walls dividing adjacent cells from one another, cutting off and firing a length of the extrusion to form a honeycomb substrate, placing slurry containing particles of a metal for use in induction heating of the component in at least some of the cells of the substrate, and firing the slurry coating to bond the coating to the walls and to consolidate the metal particles.
A method of making a gaseous emissions treatment component, comprising extruding ceramic mix through a die to form an extrusion having a plurality of elongate cells extending along the extrusion, the cells bounded by walls dividing adjacent cells from one another, in concert with the extruding feeding metal through the die with the extruded mix, and cutting off and firing a length of the extrusion and associated metal to form a honeycomb substrate.
