Abstract
Methods of making sintered ceramic particles include preparing an aqueous slurry containing an alumina-containing raw material and a binder containing a raw plant material, forming the slurry into green pellets, and sintering the green pellets to provide the sintered ceramic particles.
Claims17
A method for making sintered ceramic particles, comprising:
- preparing an aqueous slurry comprising an alumina-containing raw material and a binder comprising a raw plant material;
- atomizing the slurry into droplets;
- coating seeds comprising alumina with the droplets to form green pellets;
- and
- sintering at least a portion of the green pellets at a temperature between 1000° C. and 1650° C. for about 5 minutes to about 90 minutes to form sintered ceramic particles.
2 more elements
A method for making sintered ceramic particles, comprising:
- introducing a calcined alumina-containing raw material to a grinder;
- introducing a binder comprising a raw plant material to the grinder;
- grinding the calcined alumina-containing raw material with the binder to provide a dry homogenous particle mixture having an average particle size of less than about 15 microns;
- introducing water to the grinder to provide green pellets;
- and
- sintering at least a portion of the green pellets at a temperature between 1250° C. and 1550° C. for about 4 minutes to about 20 minutes to form sintered ceramic particles.
3 more elements
A green pellet for processing into a sintered ceramic particle, the green pellet comprising:
- water;
- an alumina-containing raw material;
- and
- an unprocessed starch-containing plant.
