Abstract
The present invention relates to compositions and methods for preparing cells from avian embryos. The invention also relates to cultures of such cells and the uses thereof, particularly for producing viruses such as MDV. The invention also relates to methods for the preparation of vaccines using such cells or viruses.
Claims8
A method for producing a viral vaccine comprising:
- (i) preparing avian embryo cells from whole avian embryos;
- (ii) infecting avian embryo cells of (i) with a virus under conditions allowing production or amplification of the virus,
- (iii) filtering the avian cell preparation of (i) or (ii) with a filter having a pore size of between 20 microns and 50 microns;
- (iv) optionally treating the filtered cell preparation of (ii) or (iii) to inactivate the virus;
- and
- (v) formulating the preparation as a vaccine composition.
