The present disclosure provides antibacterial prodrugs and methods of making and using the same.

An antibacterial prochelator that targets antibiotic resistant bacteria comprising the following formula:
- wherein R1 is selected from the group consisting of:
- R2 is
- wherein each R3 is alkyl, aryl, heteroaryl, H, OH, NH2, SH or two adjacent R3 may form a 5 or 6-member aromatic or heteroaromatic ring;
- X is N-alkyl, NH, O or S;
- and any salts, or esters thereof.
